Participation in St. David’s music ministries is a wonderful way to serve St. David’s, to get to know other members of the parish, and to have a good time learning and singing.
The Adult Choir members are all volunteers who prepare music appropriate to the season, Psalm of the day done in Anglican chant, weekly anthems, and music sung during communion every Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service, September through May.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 – 8:45 p.m. on a weekly basis and on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
The adult choir sings for the 10:30 a.m. service and for other special services from Rally Day through the Day of Pentecost.
There are three age-range children’s choirs at St. David’s:
St. Francis Choir for boys and girls, grades K – 2
St. Cecilia Choir for girls, grades 3 – 6
St. Nicholas Choir for boys, grades 3 – 6
Children’s Choir Schedule includes rehearsal times (primarily Sunday afternoons), special events, and dates in which one or more choirs will be participating during the worship service.
A modified version of the Royal School of Church Music is used, and the children’s choirs learn Anglican chant, musical concepts and skills, memorization of portions of the Eucharistic rite, i.e., the Creed, the Confession of Sin, the Lord’s Prayer, as well as deaf signing, units on the Hymnal 1982, and Christian symbolism.
Music in Liturgy
Hymns and anthems for corporate worship are chosen by the clergy and the organist to coordinate with the lectionary, and organ voluntaries are chosen to provide appropriate atmosphere for liturgical worship. Special instruments are also used on major feasts.
